Creating a functional workshop in your garage
A garage can be well-suited for a home workshop. Are you ready to have a great environment for your do-it-yourself projects? Why not have Able & Ready Construction create a functional workshop in your Prescott garage?
Here are some of the essentials of a good garage workshop:
- The workbench. Your main work surface should be a solid bench with a hard and heavy top. Buy or build the best you can manage. Make sure to provide appropriate tools and materials storage units so that you can keep your workbench clean. You may want to install carpeting on at least part of the top, if you work on projects that may be sensitive to scratching. Bolting a vise on the end of your workbench is a must!
- The lighting. Your work area needs bright, ambient light and strong lighting for specific tasks. LED lighting is great for task lighting on your workbench. An LED light with a flexible gooseneck will provide illumination right where you need it. Ceiling-mounted fluorescent light fixtures are a traditional, low-cost solution for general workshop lighting. A two or four-bulb, 48-inch fluorescent fixture is usually sufficient.
- Adequate electricity. Since we’ve been talking about your new lights, be sure your garage workshop has adequate electrical service (both outlets and electrical capacity) to accommodate not only your lighting but your all-important power tools. Install numerous outlets. You don’t want numerous extension cords stretched across your garage to trip over! If you don’t have 30-amp circuits on your garage service, get this simple upgrade done.
