Framed and frameless shower doors for your home
Deciding on a shower style is likely the most important design choice you will make for your bathroom. The right design can make your bathroom feel roomy, cozy, modern, classic, eccentric, simple, or luxurious. When considering a shower with a door, you have “framed” or “frameless” styles from which to choose. While this may seem like an easy decision, each option presents a series of benefits and drawbacks to consider. Able & Ready Construction gives their expert opinion to help you pick the right style for the bathrooms in your Prescott home.
Glass Thickness
Both styles of shower doors typically have a glass door. This glass is always tempered, but its thickness will vary depending on the use. A framed door can be expected to be thinner because the metal frame holds the door. This frame usually comes in a variety of colors and finishes which will affect the design of your bathroom. The glass on a frameless door will be much thicker because the glass is connected directly to the door hinges and the pane must support its own weight. This style is also easier to clean and maintain because it has fewer metal parts that may corrode over time.
Look and Feel
When it comes to the look and feel of the shower, the glass on both framed and frameless styles can be frosted, clear, patterned, etched, or bronzed. The most drastic differences between the two types of shower doors are how you configure them.
The most common framed door is the sliding door on a rail. The alternative to the sliding door is an inset framed panel that pivots outward on hinges. A frameless door is capable of being inset and hinged just like the framed style, and also offers a slider that uses exposed rollers with a header support bar.
