Letting in the Light on Your Home Remodel
Does your Prescott home have deep eaves, too-few windows, faux beams, low ceilings and a setting surrounded by woods-covered hills? All of these items can result in a dark home - Able & Ready Construction would like to suggest adding light to your home with the addition of windows. Here are a few suggestions:
If you have a room with only a single, small window, consider adding additional windows in the same area. This will not only give you more natural light but will add a modern look to the area.
Kitchens and living rooms are obvious places to add windows, but stairways and landings are great places to consider as well, since they’re frequently dark and windowless spots. Maybe these areas aren’t exactly right for windows, but you may want to consider Tubular Daylight Devices (TDDs) or Skylights. TDDs are reflective cylinders or pipes installed between the roof and ceiling, with a clear plastic dome. The bottoms of the tubes are diffused or glazed to prevent glaring beams of light and to ensure a soft glow.
- Does your front door have sidelights with amber glass in that bottle-bottom pattern so popular in the ‘70s. If your house faces north, the entry may be dim and dark. Why not consider adding some sidelight windows to let in more natural light and make the entryway feel more friendly.
- Do you only have a single window over the sink? You may want to consider putting in a bay window in the kitchen to give you more light and also give you a place to grow your fresh chives, sage, etc.
Beyond the benefit of more light, new windows often bring substantial energy savings, since most older homes may not have double and triple pane windows that keep the cold and heat outside by their superior insulation factors.
If you’re thinking of remodeling your Prescott home, you may want to give consideration to new windows to brighten up the inside of your home and save on your energy bills.
